Qawra (Buġibba)

The population in the Qawra and Buġibba Areas, under the care of the Franciscan Conventual Friars in St Paul’s Bay increased rapidly. The Chapel dedicated to St Massimiliano Kolbe soon became too small for the residents and for the summer residents. So the need for a larger church had been felt for a long time. The foundation stone of the new church was blessed on the 29 August 1993 and three years later, in 1996, the new church, designed by the Architect Richard England, was already functioning. It was dedicated to St Francis of Assisi. Qawra became a parish by a Decree dated December 8th 2004.
